Don't just read history
Explore, Discover and Participate!
Geography and the "Known World"
Our “Known World” consists of 20 kingdoms, with over 30,000 members residing in countries around the world.
Members, dressed in clothing of the Middle Ages and Renaissance, attend events which feature:
tournaments and martial combat
displays of arts and sciences
classes & workshops.
SCA members and non-members also share research, arts, and sciences through local meetings, educational demonstrations in our community and by gathering for events like our Investiture and Baronial Birthday.
What's with the Funny Names and the Titles?
In the SCA, we develop a "persona" which represents an individual from the Middle Ages who might have existed (but not an actual historical figure.) Our SCA names reflect our research, time period and culture.
Our titles-like King, Queen, Countess, Lord, Lady- are awards and honors that have been bestowed upon us over the years.
New to the SCA? Visiting? Newly returned?
Visitors and Newcomers are cordially invited to attend our events and local activities!
If Nottinghill Coill's Investiture and Baronial Birthday will be the first event for you, the information below may help you.
You do not have to be a member of the Society for Creative Anachronism to participate in SCA. Come! Check it out!
Gold Key is our loaner closet, and we would be glad to open it for you! All participants at most events are asked to make their best attempt at pre-17th-century garb (clothing) all day Saturday. Gold Key may also have other items you will find useful, such as feast gear. Please contact a Chatelain or Newcomer's Liaison for more!
Other items you may want to bring include:
A mug or drinking vessel, plate, cloth napkin, flatware
A small cooler with liquids and lunch
A chair with a blanket or sheet to cover it
Sun protection (sunscreen, a hat)
Ask for Newcomer's Point when you arrive, and join us for an incredible adventure in living history!.
