Baronial War Practice Information

The first fierce winds of Fall blow from the North, and the gallant armies of Atlantia gather on the fields of Elchenburg Castle to resolve an internal dispute yet again. But are her armies up to the task at hand?

Come join the Canton of Ritterwald and the Barony of Nottinghill Coill as we prepare for War of the Wings V with a day full of light- and heavy-weapons melee scenarios, teaching of the various techniques and arts of war, and target and combat archery. All Baronies and friends of Atlantia are welcome as we take the time to prepare for war!

Dates: September 17-19 2010

Location: Alhhard Manor. 1042 Woodland Drive. New Ellenton, South Carolina 29809

Site Information: Alhhard Manor is a 50 acre site featuring ample open space and woodland for camping and martial scenarios. The site has hot and cold showers, a large fire pit, ample parking, and plenty of semi-shaded room for primitive camping and merchanting. Pets are welcome as long as they are maintained on a leash by their owners and policed after. The site is an operating hay farm so no digging activites in the field. The site is quite wet.

Martial Activities: Heavy weapons melee and instruction by Count Sincalir Hawkins, Sir Afshin Darius, and Sir Bryan Killian. Light Weapons melees and instruction by Lord Elphin ap Daffyd and Baron Takeda Yoshinaka. Target archery including Royal Rounds hosted by Lord Tor Ollafson. Combat archery is welcome. This could quite possibly be the last chance to squeeze in a light or heavy weapons authorization prior to War of the Wings!

Feast: An Italian feast will be prepareded by Lord Axum O'Neal. Please contact him at
smsoforic at aol.com with any dietary concerns.
Feast menu:
1st remove- Soda bread, honey, herb butter and a selection of boiled quail eggs
2nd remove- Potato leek soup
3rd remove- Roast pork with honey whiskey sauce and mint peas
4th remove- Boiled cabbage with green onions
5th remove- Beef bridies (beef pastry pies)
6th remove- Oatmeal apple crumble with cream sauce

Merchanting: Plenty of space will be available for merchants and merchanting is encouraged. Please contact THL Arielle of Beinn Dhubh (
gillasd at bellsouth.net) one week prior to the event so placement can be reserved. The Canton will also be sponsoring an SCA yardsale for all the populace to bring their unneeded items to swap, sell, and give away.

Arts & Sciences: The theme of the A&S competition will be the processional. This means it's time to bring out your best display of personal, canton, baronial, or kingdom heraldry and regalia and submit it to be judged by the populace. This is a good opportunity to show off your best for wearing in the WoW processional or for anything that calls for great use of heraldic arts. In a purely non-period (aka democratic) method, the winner will be determined by a blind vote of the populace. Each attendee will receive a colored stone during trolling that they will cast into a sealed jar placed before the entry they like best. The winner is the piece that gets the most tokens of admiration.

Directions:

GPS Note!! Most GPS services will correctly navigate you all the way to Woodland Drive but we have found that many will place the driveway entrance approximately 1/4 mile off. Just be wary of this fact when using GPS and keep an eye out for the SCA signs as you draw near.

From Points North and East:
Find your best route to Interstate 20 westbound. Take Interstate 20 to Exit 18, Aiken, SC (Hwy 19). Take Rte. 19 South through Aiken and into New Ellenton. At the only light in New Ellenton (there's a used car dealer on the left), turn right on Smith Ave. At the end of Smith Ave., turn left onto Old Whiskey Rd. Take the first right onto Woodland Dr. The drive just over 1 mile; the driveway is on the right. NOTE: Driveway is ~1/2 mile long!

From Augusta:
Cross the Savannah River on Sand Bar Ferry Rd into and through Beech Island. Go through the two lights on the east side of Beech Island and under the overpass, staying on highway 278. Go ~14 miles to Woodland Dr. (2 roads intersect close together, Woodland is the 2nd one.) Turn left (at the Public Golf course sign) and go ~1/2 mile. Turn left onto driveway. NOTE: Driveway is approximately 1/2 mile long!

From Points South and East: Find the best route to Rte. 278 westbound toward Aiken/Augusta.  Take Rte. 278 until you reach New Ellenton and the juncture with Rte. 19. Cross Rte. 19 at the light and continue on 278. Go ~1 mile farther on Rte. 278 then take the first right onto Woodland Dr. (across from the Public Golf course sign).  Drive ~1/2 mile. Turn left onto driveway. NOTE: Driveway is approximately 1/2 mile long!
